Message to Parents and Carers – Update

Dear Parents,

As you will be aware the public guidance has changed again with regard to self-isolation. The need to self-isolate now extends to whole households where any one person is showing the symptoms of coronavirus. Therefore if anyone in a house is unwell with a new, continuous cough and or a high temperature the whole household should remain at home for 14 days to avoid spreading infection to others. The guidance for self-isolating households can be found here (Stay at home: guidance for households with possible coronavirus (COVID-19) infection – GOV.UK (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection) ). There is also very specific guidance for people with specific conditions which can be found here (COVID-19: guidance on social distancing and for vulnerable people – GOV.UK (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people) ).

With this in mind please can I remind you of the protocol for reporting absence. If your child is unable to attend college for any reason please notify the college with the reason for absence as soon as possible (but no later than 9.30am) by phoning the college on 01237 477611 and selecting option 1. If you are reporting that they are unwell with a new continuous cough/high temperature or they live in a household which is self-isolating then they will be recorded as ill for 14 consecutive days. There is no need to contact us again unless they are still unwell after this time.

As you will be aware, the college is currently running activities this week so that students have the opportunity to experience a range of different learning activities. Unfortunately, due to high levels of staff absence, we will be unable to continue with this programme. Therefore, from tomorrow, all lessons will resume and students will need to attend their normal lessons. They will need to be in full school uniform. Year 10 students who are on work experience can continue with their placement. I have also had to make the difficult decision to ask Year 9 ONLY to work from home until the weekend..

I am sure you will appreciate the advice regarding the coronavirus is changing on a daily basis and we will make sure we are abreast of all the developments so we can keep our young people and the community informed and safe.

Best wishes
