I hope my final letter of this unusual week finds you and your families well. It certainly has been an interesting one for all the staff here at the college as we learn to deal with a very different way of working and communicating with our young people. Thank you for your patience when it has been needed.
When I last wrote to you it was to find out the requirements for college provision over the Easter holiday. The lack of need has meant that we will not be open until Tuesday 14th April. It is important that students take this period to step away from their learning and spend time resting, reflecting and doing what they can to enjoy themselves. I have asked staff to stop setting work until this date to enable this to happen.
Sadly, when we open again, it will still only be for students who have Education, Health and Care plans, social workers and those whose parents are defined as key workers. The latter are groups of people whose work is described by the government as being critical to the COVID-19 response. These include:
- Health and social care
- Education and childcare
- Key public services
- Local and national government
- Food and other necessary goods
- Public safety and national security
- Utilities, communication and financial services.
Please see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision for further details.
We appreciate that the needs of these parents will vary weekly and as such we want to be as flexible as we can. Therefore, in order to ensure we have adequate provision in place for when we return after Easter, please can I ask that parents whose children will be attending college any time between Tuesday 14th April and Friday 24th April let us know by Wednesday 8th April. This needs to be done by emailing Mrs Jewell firstname.lastname@example.org. Please provide us with the detail of when you will need the provision as this will enable us to tailor staffing to daily requirements. However, it is important that wherever possible, children remain at home if this can be done so safely. In addition, if you require school transport you must complete the transport request form attached below and return to Devon County Council at the address indicated.

Please continue to keep in contact with us over the Easter holidays and when we reopen next month. We will endeavour to keep our Facebook page and website updated and I will contact you as soon as I am aware of any updates with regard to fully opening or the issuing of exam results.
Finally, I genuinely hope you are able to relax and spend some time enjoying the Easter break with your family. Please take very good care of yourselves.
