Letter to Parents & Carers from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week has been short but busy! Last night’s Year 8 remote parents’ evening was another success, with teachers able to spend time chatting to families about the progress students have made in their different subjects. We will be evaluating the impact of remote parents’ evenings later this term but, in the meantime, if you have any feedback please contact Mrs Jewell (ajewell@bidefordcollege.org).

This is the time of year when we start making plans for next year. Mrs Everitt is writing the new timetable and we have been interviewing staff ready for September. As the college is growing, we have been able to appoint a new Assistant Principal who will be leading in the development of Technological, Vocational and Careers education. This will mean we can increase further the support for our students in their pathway through education and onto their next steps in employment or training. Also, this week we have welcomed Mr Robinson our new Library manager to the college. We are blessed to have a wonderful Library and team of Librarians and we look forward to seeing his skills develop this facility further.

It is reassuring to see the number of COVID-19 cases continue to fall nationally and remain low in our local area. Whilst this does not mean we should be complacent it does feel that we can start making plans to return the college to an increasingly normal structure. This week the Department for Education announced that residential and school trips could return from the 17th May so I have met with Mrs Stapleford to plan how we will return outdoor education to our wider curriculum during the summer months.

Finally, it is always a highlight to find out the number of House points that have been awarded during the week. Well done to Coleridge House who have gained the most points this week. We are currently receiving nominations from our Heads of Faculty for their ‘Be your best at Bideford awards’. I look forward to sharing these with you shortly.

Wishing you and your families an enjoyable weekend.

Best wishes

Dr Ankers
