Letter to Parents / Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

With the end of term imminent, it feels timely to reflect on the achievements of many of our students and the opportunities that the staff have given our young people since Christmas. Despite the challenges of the ongoing pandemic it has been great to see so many of our old activities and traditions return.

The number of extra-curricular activities at the college continues to grow with students joining societies, clubs and teams. Last week our LGBTQ+ group delivered thought provoking assemblies to all year groups. They demonstrated excellent presentation and leadership skills and we look forward to more student led assemblies in the future. Sports fixtures are now back in full force with Bideford College teams taking part in a number of inter school events and tournaments. Just this week the volleyball team were successful at PETROC in their first competition.

Our Modern Foreign Languages team triumphed at a regional competition in which 7 schools competed. The college came back with a first place in the KS3 non-native category, a first runner up in the KS3 near native category and a first runner up in the KS4 near native category. Well done to all who took part!

Enrichment week was a tremendous success with many of our students taking part in activities both on site and further afield. Students went to a range of sites and locations including London, Bachelor’s Hall, SS Freshspring, Westward Ho! and Air Extreme.
Our Outdoor Education programme is also now in full swing. Recently a Dartmoor Challenge event took place which involved teams completing either a 35 mile or 45 mile route in preparation for the Ten Tors event scheduled for next term. Students have also taken part in night Navigation and Camp Craft Expedition where the particular focus is on map and compass reading. Both are very challenging and demanding events and our students showed great determination and resolve.

And finally, we are very proud of all the students who took part in the recent Concert for Ukraine. Thank you to all who came along to support this worthy cause. The evening was a great success with a full programme of musical delights which raised over £600!

Wishing you all a relaxed and refreshing Easter break.
