Letter to Parents and Carers,

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing this letter at the end of a very busy week at the college. We have seen the return of public examinations and as such our Year 11 and Sixth Form students have started to sit their final assessments in most qualifications. The results of these are incredibly important, providing them with the opportunity to go onto their chosen next steps in further education or apprenticeships. Before each exam our Year 11 attend ‘exam warm ups!’ the purpose of which is to provide last minute input before they enter the exam hall. The atmosphere in these sessions is fantastic and shows the commitment and determination our students have to do well in their studies. These take place before the college day when exams are in the morning, and period 3 when exams are in the afternoon. I am sure you would all join me in wishing them all good luck over the next 5 weeks.

Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of cheering on our Ten Tors team as they crossed the finishing line at Okehampton Army camp. In total 24 Bideford College students took part in this event either as part of the college teams or representing local organisations. Ten Tors is an incredibly challenging event that sees students covering 35, 45 or 55 miles over two days, including an overnight camp. Congratulations goes to all those who took part, it is yet again another example of the resilience and determination of the young people in our community.

Last night the library hosted our annual Harry Potter evening, a favourite with current and future students. Much fun was had by all thanks to the hard work of Mrs Harrison and the library team.

Finally, if you are in Bideford this weekend please do pop into the Burton Art Gallery where a number of our students’ art work is on display. Well done to Bo Bennet, Chloe Horn and Ruby Coughlan all of whom will be presented with awards this afternoon for their work.

Best wishes

Dr Ankers
