Letter to Parents and Carers,

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this email finds you and your families well and that you were able to enjoy last week’s long weekend. This week we have seen the completion of the Year 10 exams. These provide the students with a very similar experience to the GCSE exams they will sit next year. Despite the inevitable nerves, we have been incredibly impressed with the maturity of our Year 10 students who have conducted themselves so well throughout the exam period. Teaching staff are busily marking their papers and we look forward to discussing these with parents at our parents’ evening on Thursday 26 May.

This weekend sees many students from all over the UK travelling to Dartmoor to complete the Ten Tors event. This two-day experience requires true grit and determination by all its competitors who spend two days and a night on the moor covering distances of 35, 45 or 55 miles. Bideford College has entered a 35 and two 45-mile teams this year with a number of other students walking on behalf of other organisations. I am looking forward to seeing them cross the line on Sunday and celebrating the taking part in such a remarkable achievement. We hope to keep our social media channels updated throughout the weekend with the latest information on the progress of our teams so please check for photos and reports.

Thank you to all those who attended last night’s ‘supporting your child revise’ event. As final exams rapidly approach for our Year 11 and 13 students we are working hard to support them and their families in what can be a stressful and worrying time. If you would like to attend a similar event we will be offering another session on Tuesday evening. Please email Dr Butt or check our Facebook page for more details. Similarly, if you have any queries about exams please do contact your child’s tutor or Head of House.

Best wishes

Dr Ankers
