Letter to Parents and Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you and your families well and that our students have been able to enjoy the summer holidays so far.

This week has been an exciting one for many of the students and staff at the college with the publication of A-Level, GCSE and BTEC results. The achievement of these students has been a real testament to the hard work and resilience of those who have done so well despite the disruption and uncertainly of the last 18 months. I am also incredibly grateful to the staff at the college who have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress into employment or continued education. It really has been quite a year!

I am pleased that our plans to reopen to the college in September free of all restrictions continue to go ahead. The site team are working hard to prepare the college buildings so that all students can once again fully utilise the fantastic facilities we have. Thank you to everyone who have booked the first of their required COVID 19 tests at our on-site asymptomatic testing centre. As the first of these tests needs to be undertaken before students start their lessons, we are asking students to book their tests before the start of term. This will avoid the need to implement a staggered start, meaning that college can start for Years 7 and 12 on the 7th September and all other years on the 8th September.

New Year group Testing days available First day in college
7 and 12 2/9/21

8, 9, 10, 11, 13 3/9/21

Appointments for tests can be made through our parents’ evening booking system (https://bidefordcollege.org/parents-evening-online-booking/). Students will not need to wait for the result. Any student testing positive will be contacted by the college and all results communicated via the NHS results service. Any students who are unable to attend the on-site testing centre in advance of the start of term will be offered a test on the first day of their term before they attend lessons, although they will need to wait for the result which takes between 20 and 30 minutes. If you have any issues about the testing process then please email Mrs Jewell (ajewell@bidefordcollege.org) who will be able to answer any concerns you may have.

If your child has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days please email Mrs Jewell for further information before booking an appointment.

I would be most grateful if you could sign up students for their first COVID-19 tests as a matter of urgency. If we are unable to test significant numbers of students in advance of the new academic year we will have no choice but to stagger the start of the new term to allow testing to take place. I will write to you at the end of August to confirm the starting arrangements of the new term.

Best wishes

Dr C Ankers
