Letter to Parents and Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that this week’s letter finds you and your families well. I was really saddened this week to be alerted to the increasing rates of COVID in a number of secondary and primary schools in North Devon. This was then followed by a positive case in our own college community. This has bought back into sharp focus the need for our on-going control measures in college. This includes the regular home testing of students and staff. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the college COVID-19 testing programme with twice weekly lateral flow tests. Please do not forget to register your test results and if anyone does record a positive case over the weekend do email me (principal@bidefordcollege.org). This will enable us to quickly track, trace and isolate close contacts and therefore reduce the potential for spread of COVID-19. We will of course continue to monitor the situation closely and take any action as deemed necessary to ensure everyone’s safety.

Due to government restrictions not being lifted as had been hoped, we have sadly had to cancel again a number of events that we look forward to at this time of year. It is such a shame that we cannot gather together for these events as well as welcoming our new Year 7 for taster days at the college. Although Sports Days cannot go ahead in the usual whole school format, Mr Bloxham and his team are working hard to plan a series of events that can take place whilst still limiting social mixing at the college.

Despite the ongoing challenges all our students face, they should be commended for their hard work and contribution to college life. This is reflected in the amount of House Points currently being awarded. Arthur House students in particular should be commended as their House received the most points this week!

Finally, we have had to make a minor amendment to the 2021-22 college calendar. This is to accommodate the additional Bank Holiday that has been put in place to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which falls in half term. Please see our website (https://bidefordcollege.org/term-and-holiday-dates/) for more detail.

Best wishes

Dr Ankers
