Letter to Parents and Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your families are safe and well.  We are very much looking forward to welcoming all of our students back to College next week. As it is some weeks now since we last saw most of our young people, it seems timely to remind everyone of the systems in place at the college so that students are safe and prepared to learn.

As before Christmas, students will need to remain in their designated area of the college. With the exception of Year 11 who will now be having lunch in the G1 area and marquee these areas remain unchanged. It is still necessary to reduce social mixing of the wider college and as such the management of the college site is an important factor in reducing risk of spread. Therefore, students cannot leave their designated areas as highlighted in the Multi Academy Trust Behaviour Policy which has been amended during the pandemic. The policy can be found on the college website (https://bidefordcollege.org/covid-19-policies/). In September students signed a code of conduct and these expectations remain unchanged,

Since November 5th students have been required to wear face coverings whilst moving around the buildings and in communal areas. This has not changed and students should continue to arrive at college with a face covering. We will also be strongly encouraging and supporting staff and students to wear face coverings at all times whilst indoors, including when in classrooms. This reflects the guidance from the Department of Education who have introduced this as an additional protection factor when schools reopen on March 8th. We are sensitive to the needs of some students who are exempt from wearing a face covering.  In this situation I would ask that you email me so I can ensure that staff are aware.

It is particularly important at this time that students bring their own equipment to college as sharing of resources is not advised. Students should bring the following equipment with them to college each day; pen, pencil, ruler, calculator and a mask.  It is a good idea for students to also bring a spare mask.

Students will need to attend college on their designated arrival date fully equipped and in full college uniform. The expectations for this have not changed and can be found on our website (https://bidefordcollege.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/College-Uniform-and-Price-List-2020.pdf). Uniform and PE kit is available to order from Samuel Daw and Co.

We want to ensure that none of our students have any barriers to re-engaging with their learning next week, therefore, if you have any problems with either equipment or uniform please contact me (rvowles@bidefordcollege.org) as we will be able to offer support to ensure all students are prepared for college.

Best wishes
