Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today’s letter marks the end of another strange term and over a year since the education of our young people was disrupted due to the pandemic. As we start to see the easing of the national lockdown restrictions, there feels an increased level of optimism for better times ahead. We are hoping to hear shortly from the DFE on how the operating of school systems can start to return to normal, reflecting the changes seen in wider society. I know I have a lot of teachers who are looking forward to teaching students in the specialist classrooms and facilities we have on site. However, please be assured that we will continue to follow all guidance very carefully and any changes that take place will happen only when we are told it is safe to do so. Over the Easter holiday we expect the Prime Minister to update schools and colleges on the position with regard to face masks. If there are any changes or announcements over the holiday I will write to you again.

Over the last week, students have been issued with further supplies of COVID-19 testing kits. This is so that students can continue to test every Wednesday and Sunday throughout the holiday. Please can I ask that you continue to report results to the NHS and the college via the form on our website (https://bidefordcollege.org/covid-19-policies/). As staff will be on holiday from tomorrow (and therefore the recording sheets monitored less frequently) please can I also ask that if your child tests positive for COVID-19 please email me (principal@bidefordcollege.org). As well as offering support it will also mean that I can undertake any necessary contact tracing. I am unsure how long the home testing will be required but, as always, I will keep you updated with information as it becomes available.

This afternoon, we will be celebrating the successes of the term in the normal way with our rewards assemblies. As we are still unable to hold assemblies, this will be done in tutor rooms. Congratulations, goes to Hepworth House who have won the House cup this term. It has been a very changeable picture this term with lots of House points being awarded to students accessing both the remote and on-site curriculum. It has been wonderful seeing the students taking part in the Fresh Air Friday activities, well done to Millie Loze the overall winner. Congratulations also go to Molly Haughton for winning the online Bideford’s Got Talent competition.

On behalf of all the staff and governors I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a relaxing and peaceful holiday. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 19th April.

Best wishes

Dr C Ankers
