Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you and all our students have had a good week and enjoyed the brief spell of fine weather. This week has seen Year 10 and 12 continue to receive face to face support with specialist teachers. We have also seen growing numbers of students whose parents are key workers, have an EHCP or a social worker on site. It is really lovely to hear and see students again and staff have commented on their resilient and mature approach to the current situation. Teachers have also been impressed with the progress and efforts the students have made whilst working at home.

It was reassuring to hear the Prime Minister confirm on Tuesday night that secondary education will recommence in September with full attendance. (https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/prime-ministers-statement-to-the-house-on-covid-19-23-june-2020). School leaders have been promised specific guidance on preparations that will be needed in advance of this and I will share these with you when they are published. However, teaching staff are already working hard on a return curriculum so that students can be supported when they return to full time education. We are mindful that our young people will have had very different experiences over the last few months and the college is committed to doing this in a sensitive and personalised manner.

It is still important that students continue to communicate with their tutors and log in to Class Charts daily. We really appreciate you are doing your best to support this but please do contact the staff of the college if you are facing any issues. There are still lots of ways we can help!

Finally, thank you for your messages of support at this time. It is really lovely to be able to pass these on to staff, all of whom are missing the students so much.

Best wishes

Dr C Ankers
