Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this email finds you and your families well and the return to college has been a good one.

It was wonderful to welcome all the students back to the college this week. They have returned in such good spirits and looking smart and wearing their uniform with pride. Thank you for your support with this. It was good to start this term with year group assemblies, something we have missed being able to do over the last 18 months.

Thank you also for your support with asymptomatic COVID-19 testing. At the end of today we will take down our on-site testing centre and we will return to students testing at home. This will mean that the gym will return to its traditional use as well as provide us with additional space at breaktimes for our Year 11 students to eat and revise. As before we would ask that students test routinely on a Wednesday and Sunday. They should now have been provided with a home testing kit with (in theory) enough tests until 3rd October. Please email Mrs Jewell if you do not have any testing kits, if you run out before the next consignment is sent home, or if you any questions. Please also remember to submit results on our online form found on our website https://bidefordcollege.org/covid-19-policies/.

As well as asymptomatic testing at home, please could I also ask that any students displaying any coronavirus symptoms are kept at home until a PCR test has been undertaken and a negative result returned. PCR tests can be booked via the website – https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test. It is important that symptomatic people are tested with PCR tests (rather than the lateral flow ones used at home or college) and they self-isolate until they receive the result to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in our community. As a reminder the symptoms of COVID-19 are:

· a high temperature

· a new, continuous cough

· lost/changed sense of smell or taste

If your child is unable to attend college because of COVID symptoms or for any other reason, please notify our attendance officer by calling 01237 477611. Mrs Conroy will be writing home to all parents next week to explain in more detail the process for reporting known and unexpected absence.

Next week sees the start of a number of our after-school clubs. Initial information will be coming out via tutors but Mr Munro will be in touch shortly so you are aware of the opportunities on offer at the college. Please encourage your child to get involved.

Thank you once again for your role in making this week a great start to the new term

Best wishes

Dr Claire Ankers
