Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you well. This week at the college we have seen the last of the Year 7 residentials take place. All the staff who have gone out with the students, including external outdoor education providers, have commented on their positive attitude and enthusiasm. Particular thanks must go to Mrs Stapleford who has spent the last three weeks on Dartmoor looking after the Year 7s and providing them with such a fantastic experience. We are really lucky to have access to Bachelor’s Hall, the residential centre owned by the Multi Academy Trust and we look forward to taking other year groups there throughout the academic year.

This week has seen the return of interschool sports fixtures with Year 10 and 11 football teams taking part in competitions. Well done to the boys who played last night beating both GTS and Park. Yet again, all staff involved complimented on the conduct of the Bideford College students taking part. They really are a credit to the college and our community.

On Monday and Thursday we welcomed the Navy to the college who came to work with our catering students. There was a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ type event where students were supplied with a basket of ingredients and had to prepare a two-course meal. These meals were then tasted by the members of the Navy. Some really excellent meals were produced, ranging from curries to cheesecakes!

I am continuing to monitor closely the number of positive COVID-19 cases at the college and whilst we still have members of our community self-isolating, the numbers are low compared to the rates being reported nationally in the 11 -18 age group. We will, however, continue to promote the wearing of masks, take part in home testing and ensure all our spaces are well ventilated. Each of these protective measures will be reviewed again after half term. Thank you all for your support with this.

Finally, as we approach the final week of this half term I would like to wish the Year 13 students good luck in their mock exams. As well as completing Oxbridge University applications this week our Sixth Form students will be completing these important exams in the Devon Hall.

Best wishes

Dr Ankers

Principal
