Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Well what a year that has been! Home learning, bubbles, facial coverings and testing stations. These are just some of the challenges that our college community has risen to throughout this year. I have been amazed at the resilience and commitment shown by staff, students and our parents at what has been an incredibly testing time for anyone involved in education. Thank you all for your ongoing support and encouragement. It has meant lot.

Today we have tried to maintain some kind of occasion for the end of year. Our traditional end of term assemblies have been taking place remotely in tutor groups. Congratulations to those who have won prizes in the end of term raffle. Particularly well done to Hepworth House who have won the House Cup this year for being awarded the most House Points. I was also lucky enough to present Poppy Sojitra in 7DT the certificate for being awarded the most House Points this year.

Next week we open our doors to many students for our summer school. I am looking forward to meeting many Year 6 students ahead of their official September start. It will be a great opportunity for them to meet some of our staff and students as well as getting to know their way around the college. This time of year is very important for our Year 11 and Sixth Form students who are awaiting the results of their qualifications. The results which are published on Tuesday 10 August (Sixth Form) and Thursday 12 August (Year 11) will enable them to make the next step into employment or further education.

We are really looking forward to next term and opening and running the college in a way that means all students can access our fantastic facilities, mix with one another and take part in a range of extra-curricular activities. If there are any changes, updates or information that will impact on the start of term I will write to you over the summer. If you have any queries about the start of term please email me (principal@bidefordcollege.org). Lessons start for Year 7 on Tuesday 7 September and the rest of the college on Wednesday 8 September. As you will have seen from my letter yesterday, the college is opening a few days earlier so we can test students for COVID-19 in preparation for their return to the classroom.

On behalf of the staff and governors of Bideford College I would like to wish you all a relaxing summer!

Best wishes

Dr C Ankers
