Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a good few days. It is good to see the weather warming up. Despite the end of term rapidly approaching things remain hectic at the college! This week has seen the final stages of our sports month events and I look forward to finding out next week who will be the winning House. There has been some super video footage on our social media as well as some action shots so please do have a look on our Facebook page. Thank you to the PE team for all your hard work in putting on this event.

This week myself and Mrs French had the pleasure of interviewing Sixth Form Students for positions on the student leadership team. The standard of application was exceptionally high and decisions were difficult to make. However, I am pleased to let you know that the following students were successful: Ben Cook (Head Boy), Zoë Cross (Head Girl), Shayla Webster (Student Governor), Ben Pomeroy (Student Governor), Martha Andrews (Farwell House Lead), Keira Connelly (Hepworth House Lead), Ben Eves (Arthur House Lead), Megan Hare (Brunel House Lead), Phoebe Steer (Coleridge House Lead), Sophie Evans, Billy Heard, Ellie Hutchinson, Olivia Harrison and Owen Hutchinson. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Unfortunately, we have seen further disruption this week due to COVID-19 contact tracing. Whilst the need for restrictions in college next week can be stepped down, given the rates in the local community we will be keeping our current protection measures in place including bubbles and mask wearing. We will also continue to contact trace until the end of term.

Preparations are underway for our hugely popular and oversubscribed summer school which starts Monday 26th July. The students attending, many of which are our new Year 7 cohort, are going to be treated to an amazing week of activities.

I will write home next week to explain how we will operate the college testing centre when we return to college in September. We will be required to test consenting students twice at the beginning of term but will do everything we can to minimise the impact this has on our planned start to the year.

Finally, can I remind you that next Friday the college day will be ending early at 1.30pm and buses will leave at this time.

Have a lovely weekend

Best wishes

Dr Ankers
