Home Testing Kits

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week most students will receive their final COVID-19 test in the college asymptomatic testing centre. Students will then be able to continue with their routine testing at home. After their third test, students will be given two boxes, each box containing the materials to complete three tests (6 in total). They will also be given a separate leaflet explaining the self-testing process. This replaces the instructions found in the box (these can be thrown away).  Students will be asked to sign a form to confirm they have received their test kits which will be clearly labelled with their name.

Additional support

There are additional ‘how to’ guides and instructional videos available on the college website (https://bidefordcollege.org/covid-19-policies/). Some of these have been produced by the NHS, others have been produced in-house by the college.  Please do email Mrs Jewell (ajewell@bidefordcollege.org) if you experience any difficulties carrying out the tests and we will be able to provide you with additional support.

Test process

After your child has completed each test it is important that the results of all those completed are logged with both the NHS and the college within 24 hours of completion. For this you will require the result and the log number found on the lateral flow device.  Logging the results with the NHS can be done online at www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. Alternatively test results can be logged by phone by dialling 119.  In order to log the results with the college please use our online form which can be accessed here  https://forms.gle/hrueWS6rH1qjkmt18.  A link to this form is also on our website.  Again, if you experience any difficulties please email Mrs Jewell. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 using a home lateral flow test your child and household should immediately follow the guidance for self isolation (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/). When you report the test result to the NHS you will be provided with further information on the next steps to take.

Testing schedule

Tests should be repeated every three to five days.  This means that their first home test should not be undertaken less than three days after their final on-site test. A suggested schedule can be found below:

Year group Final test in college Home test 1 Home test 2 Home test 3 Home test 4 Home test 5 Home test 6

As you will see, by following the suggested schedule students will test themselves every Wednesday and Sunday.

Thank you once again for all your support in this process. We have all been very impressed with the mature approach the students have shown throughout this unusual return to college. They have been a credit to you all.

Best wishes
