You may recall us talking about 6 areas that we wanted to focus on last term, regarding whole school improvement. These areas are:
- Behaviour and Rewards
- Pastoral System
- Assessment procedures
- Residential experiences and extra-curricular opportunities
- Applied Learning
The aim of last term was to research the 6 areas, looking at schools and colleges where the practice in these areas has been identified as outstanding- and then look at how we could take these successful systems and put them into our own context – to ensure success at Bideford College.
In the areas of Behaviour and Uniform, changes and improvements are already underway – as I informed you just before the Easter break. The new Behaviour System is in place and I have been really impressed with the changes we are already seeing, in terms of both the student’s behaviour in lessons and around the College, but also in the amount of work which is getting done and the positive comments from the staff and students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for their support in this area. We are now focussing on our Reward Systems to look at how we can improve these further. The new Uniform specific details will also be coming out to all parents very soon – including the Sizing Evenings which will be held in May for parents and students to attend to try on the Uniform and place orders. A full information document will be coming out shortly.
In the areas of The Pastoral System, Residential experiences and extra-curricular opportunities and Applied Learning, we have now completed our reviews and proposals of ways in which we feel we could improve upon these areas can be found below.
Models for Consideration
We are still reviewing our Assessment Procedures. We very much value your input- and would really appreciate it if you could take a moment to read through these documents and, should you feel it appropriate, tell us your thoughts. We will consider all of your comments and then produce a document outlining our decisions as to how we will be progressing further in these areas. It is our aim that these decisions will be implemented in September 2016.
