Dear Parents and Carers,

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this email finds you and your families well. It has been a very exciting week at the college with many of our students taking part in some exciting activities and trips. Year 7 have spent the week with the Expressive Arts faculty attending a range of workshops and a very popular trip to Air Extreme to take part in a trampoline coaching course. The Year 8 have been with the Technology and Vocational department. They have visited the SS Freshspring which is docked on Bideford Quay, developed their creative media skills and spent time with our Technology staff working on projects in our food rooms and workshops. Year 9 have had the opportunity to learn about our wonderful local area and its environmental and historical importance. In contrast they have also spent time with the MFL staff learning about other countries and their cultures. Year 13 have just returned from four days in London taking in the sights of our capital city. Year 11, who with 7 weeks to go before the start of their GCSE exams, have had time with English, Maths and Science undertaking revision and exam preparations with each faculty team. A small group travelled to our residential centre on Dartmoor, Bachelor’s Hall, to spend some intensive time preparing for these important exams. Finally, our Year 10 and 12 have been on work placement experiencing a wide range of roles with businesses and employers across the South West. These students have certainly done us proud and I have received many emails commenting on their fantastic attitude and commitment to their work. As a result of this a number of students have secured paid after school employment and even apprenticeships with their chosen work place.

It has been lovely to hear the excitement and chatter around the college throughout the week. The purpose of our ‘Enrichment week’ is to allow students to spend time learning new skills and knowledge in a focused curriculum area away from the constraints of the timetable. However, this week would not have been possible without the efforts of all the staff at the college. They have worked tirelessly to put on all these experiences that we hope will provide memories for our students in years to come. At the college we believe that these opportunities to learn skills and visit different places are essential to the development of our young people. We will be undertaking student, staff and parent surveys in the near future and we would value your opinion on the experiences this week. This will help us plan for next year’s enrichment week. Please follow the college’s social media pages for photos of some of the activities that have been happening.

Unfortunately, like so many local schools we are seeing an increase in the number of students and staff testing positive for COVID-19. Please keep your children at home if they are displaying symptoms of coronavirus and arrange for them to be tested. Keeping students in education is our priority and we want to avoid disrupting this anymore. This week has shown us all how much our young people have missed over the last two years and it is wonderful to be able to bring back so many events this year.

Thank you for your on-going support

Best wishes

Dr Ankers
