Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this email finds you well. The staff at the college are busily preparing for the upcoming enrichment week which starts on Monday 21st March. This exciting week-long event will see a change to the normal timetable with students spending time learning in one curriculum area. It also gives Year 11 the opportunity to undertake intensive revision in Maths, English and Science ahead of this summer’s GCSEs. No doubt you will be hearing more about the events from staff over the next few days.
This week has seen many of our sports teams take part in interschool events. Athletics, rugby, netball and football squad have all represented the college at events both at college and further afield. Whatever the result, our students are always a credit to our college and we are very proud to see them turned out so smartly in their school kit. It is the time of year when our Year 13 students find out if their applications to University have been successful. It is fantastic to hear the students discuss their next steps and the range institutes that offers have been received from. Destinations such as Bristol, Exeter, Durham and Cambridge are examples of Universities that Bideford College students are moving onto next year.
A number of parents have enquired about the routine testing of students for COVID-19. As of 21 February, students and staff are no longer required to undertake routine testing. This means we are not being supplied with the testing kits for distribution to our students. However, there continues to be small numbers of positive cases within our community so please do follow the NHS guidance if your child is showing symptoms of the virus. The details of the symptoms and any actions that need to be taken can be found at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/get-tested-for-coronavirus/.
Thank you as always for your ongoing support,
Dr Ankers Principal
