Dear Parents and Carers,

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that this email finds you well and that you have had an enjoyable weekend. Last week was a particularly busy week at the college with a number of students representing the college at a number of events and competitions. Mrs Bidder took a group of college musicians to Killerton House, near Exeter to take part in ‘the mix’ and the return of Oceanfest after the pandemic saw Bideford College surfers successfully take part in the inter-school competition at Croyde. At college, students in Years 7 to 10 have been completing heats in their PE lessons ahead of next week’s Sports Day. This memorable event takes place annually thanks to Mr Bloxham, Mr O’Donoghue and the rest of their PE team. We will be writing home later this week to invite all our families to this event which will be held at our Moreton Park sports ground.

This week sees the end of the GCSE and BTEC exams and sadly we bid farewell to a wonderful group of young people. Thankfully many of them will be returning to study with us in our Sixth Form. We still have some places left on our courses so please do contact Mrs French if you require any information about these or if you need details on how to apply. This week also sees the end of most of the Year 13 exams. These students are moving on to a range of Universities, Colleges and Apprenticeships. We look forward to sharing with you the successes of all our students taking exams in the summer.

Finally, I wanted to bring to your attention some changes to the college term next year. As we enter the next crucial stage in the college’s development, coupled with the changes to our multi-academy trust it is important that we provide staff with additional training opportunities so they can use new teaching tools and engage in high quality CPD so that the young people of Bideford College can benefit from the latest developments in teaching and learning. With this in mind we have scheduled a number of additional INSET days including one at the start of term. This means that students will return after the summer on 8 September, with Year 7 students starting on 7 September, this is also the enrolment day for Year 12s. Please see https://bidefordcollege.org/term-and-holiday-dates/ for more details.

Best wishes

Dr C Ankers
