Regular attendance at school is vital to help children achieve and get the best possible start in life. Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy lifestyle habits, avoid dangerous behaviour and have a better chance of making a smooth transition to the next stage of education – whether this be Sixth Form, college or on an apprenticeship.
If your children are aged between 5 and 16, you must make sure they attend school regularly and stay in school. This is the law. You can be taken to court for breaking it. (Section 444 of the Education Act 1996).
